tail of per item FX (delay) is suddenly cut off?

hello, friends at the old interactive manual i put a per-item FX on an item (delay) and i want to have this item's delay last over a period of several seconds. unfortunately, all is well until my delay tail is suddenly cut off. is this some pref setting i can change? thanks for the help. i can provide more info if necessary. nym
