Hi I keep getting this error when I'm trying to author my dvd. Warning: An error occurred while writing a file. The sub-picture or menu highlight graphics are too complex and exceed the DVD specification. I created a background menu in photoshop and open the image in dvd architect

Sub-pictures can only have 4 colours I think, something like that. So it's likely that is the source of your problem. I'm sure there are guides for making menus in Photoshop around here somewhere. Read up and that'll solve your problem I'm sure :)

Try to make your subpicture simpler (from the graphical point of view): the easiest way to bypass the problem is to split one long subpicture sentence in two or three rows... Please consider that the underlying structures for handling subpictures in the DVD specs are imposing some limitations to the complexity of the graphic contents: in the Run Lenght Coding (the encoding scheme adopted for the subpictures), the limit of the graphic buffer is 180 bytes per line, and the whole size for all of the of the subpicture data should not exceed 53.220 bytes. Cheers, SD

If it helps... DVDA is a bit unusual in the way it you create button graphics, highlights etc. Generally you import your graphic or video for the background, & if you're doing button highlight masks, a 2 color bitmap I believe. Animated button frames use GIF animated files, in fact button frames I think have the most options. At any rate, best advice is to really read the pdf manual as it goes into this in several sections.
