turns out i answered my own question. i ended up using scenchap and making each cell into a chapter, then compiling just one title, followed up by ifoupdate in the adjusted cell mode. now the dvd works like a charm.

Sweet! I was going to suggest the adjusted cell mode, but as you can see now that you've experienced it, it's kind of hard to explain to someone exactly how to do it! Glad you got your title working successfully!
