I've been through every thread on this topic and still havn't fixed my problem. I'm using Roland TD3 drums into AD and REaper. I want to be able to record separate kit pieces on different tracks (kick, snare, etc) I can't get Reaper to recognize the Edrums. Tracking drums soon. Can anyone help?
It depends on how you've connected the TD3 to your computer. For instance if you've connected the MIDI out to your soundcard's MIDI in it'll appear in Prefs->MIDI devices as your soundcard's MIDI input, so enable that. Steve
I'm connecting them via my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 midi in. Roland TD3 MIdi out --> Pro 40 Midi In I have the TD3 preset pulled up in AD, and I"ve even included the JS files found in this thread: Just can't get the TD3 to talk to it! I'm even getting the little red midi line... I'm almost positiv it's a Drum Map issue. We really wanna finish this project soon...all help is greatly appreciated!
If you're getting MIDI messages, then the problem is with AD. Try this: Start a new project. Insert AD by right-clicking in the TCP on the left side of the screen. Insert a new MIDI item on the AD track, open it in the MIDI editor, an click around on the keys in the piano roll. If you get sound, then AD is working. If not, there's a problem. If it's working, then try once more to get your ekit connected up and working.
I"m getting the MIDI line in the AD master track in REaper. I have the track mapped to the TD3 preset, and nothing. THe program just won't see the kit. I can use the TS outs on the ROland module to go line level into the interface, and I have the drum module set to local off, so as to only trigger the sounds in AD. What's the problem here? I know without a doubt it's a problem with AD. All Midi is enabled on my interface too
Try this: check the MIDI note channel. It may be recording on ch. 10 and your AD may be receiving on ch.1. I don't need JS or anything to track MIDI through my TD-9. Pointless, I think.
"You mentioned you're getting midi on the AD track. Is that from the kit? I'm assuming yes." yes it is whenever a pad is triggered. just the thin red line appears in the track, no level "If you just open up the AD gui, and pick a random beat, and press play in AD, do you get any sound? What if you try loading a different kit in AD. (By chance, you didn't accidentally hit the "initialize" button, did you?)" no, when I have chosen the TD3 map preset it will not play any beat, even the presets "And - sometimes I overlook the obvious - the track is not muted, is it? Muting the master in the AD gui would also give the same symptoms and is much easier to overlook." track is not muted. "Forgive me if any of this sounds insulting, I just know I've had plenty of those facepalm moments." no worries at all! today the drummer was like...are you sure your monitors aren't muted...? haha funny times NEW TRACK insert vsti>addictive drums> this sets up AD in reaper with multichannels...kick,snare,OH, etc. At this point I always delete the "AD Master" track that Reaper creates. It's never proven to be a problem before, although I've never tried to use Edrums before... At this point I go into AD, beats, map presets, and choose TD3. This is where I get stuck, where AD stops working. I've only tried record arming the master track b/c I don't wanna begin to try and route the kick to just that channel yet... For input I choose midi input>pro 40>all channels Perhaps I'm doing something wrong with the routing to the channel? I thought that if it is going to work, I can play test in AD without having to route anything. I can't remap triggers with the Learn function either.
I tried different inputs, my Pro40 Midi and the standard Midi Input in Reaper. Neither one nor 10 work, and I'm pretty sure I read that the TD3 Module transmits on channel 10, like most midi devices. It's the weirdest thing. As soon as I change the drum map I can't play presets, but if I make a new project and set up the exact same way the drums play fine until I switch that map. I've since deleted the extra JS files, didn't realize they were unnecessary. And for the input monitoring...is that the same as record monitoring, hte button adjacent to record arm? b/c if I enable that I can get a level and everything in both AD and reaper, but still no sound. I will post a project file. Thanks for being so helpful guys! I love Reaper and AD so this will be a fun experiment, once it works.
