OS 9.1 Restart Glitch

After installing ProTools Free and OMS, I couldn't shut down. Some process was running -- my little watch was ticking around the clock. This happened again once I forced a restart. I think there was some squabble over a serial port. My control strip wouldn't launch. Anyone ever hear of something like this. I want to fiddle around with ProTools, but not if I can't get a good install. -- Todd

Check your startup items folder, and also the launcher. If you have any anti-virus or system protection stuff turn that off as well. Did you make a stripped-down extension set to run PTF? What machine/hardware are you running?

I'm using a Mac 8500 with a Sonnet G3 450 MHz upgrade in it. Every thing else is normal. I use iTunes and have a serial port monitor for my palm pilot. I didn't think to create an extensions set for PTF; that is a good idea. How bare bones can I go? -- Todd

I'm glad you concur that it's the serial port monitor. It's really a pain. I'll try leaving that thing out of the start up and reinstall PTF (with the extensions off) and see what happens. It'll be easier to manually launch and detect the serial port for the palm than to hassle with Pro Tools. Thanks for the extensions list, that was mighty kind of you. -- Todd
