I use a USB Flash Drive for my recording. Works just fine.

I have used an USB stick with few smaller projects which includes recording several guitars and vocals and I have not had any problems.

i don't think the latencies on those usb keys is very good, but if your machine has enough ram, it'll cache the hell out of it and you should be right. if you're ram starved, it won't run well.
