There is a sort of "fader" typed gizmo on envelope "channel strips" in tcp. If you have a time selection, and you raise or lower this fader thingy, then it will create envelope points at edges of time selection, and it will raise or lower the envelope within the time selection. I like this. Is it possible to have it setup so that grabbing the envelope itself, within the time selection, does the same sort of thing? The way it is for me right now, I need to use that fader handle to do that, and just grabbing the envelope ignores time selection. There is no fader knob for take envelopes either, so it looks like it is impossible to do that kind of time selection editing with take envelopes. Is that right? Is there maybe a mouse modifier way I can get this working how I would like?

Try ctrl+shift and drag an envelope segment. It will create the edge points on time selection and you can move stuff about. It's that way by default.

Thanks. I guess I should have explored the mouse modifier functions first lol. I thought it would be more complicated than that. I also see that I can change the slope with alt+click. I actually came here to delete this stupid question. Reaper's envelope system is actually pretty good. The only thing I don't like, is how moving items that have envelopes creates new points everywhere.

You can disable that ("Move envelope points with media items").

White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters. I like Coupes.

You will want to disable Preferences->Editing Behavior->Envelope Display->"Automatically show affected envelopes when moving media items across tracks". You need to keep your mouse button held down during the drag, it will not create envelopes on tracks that don't have them, while you're moving the item around, even with this option enabled. EDIT: But actually, no, even with this option enabled, if you just keep dragging your item, it will close the "affected" envelope if you don't release the mouse button on that particular track. See:

Thanks for your help, but I think I actually came across this before and then forgot about it lol. It still does create random points if you let go of the item, which is still annoying, but I does make a BIG difference. It's a huge improvement over not having it set the way it was.
