I have read past posts and it seems that it does work, however,I would like to hear from people who have made it work. You know, with the delay compensation and all that.I am very close to a purchase of Powercore Element and the VST Wrapper, but I want to know if it actually works. Ghede, All in all I would say that, yes, it does work. I have now been using it for a couple of days. I think that there are a few glitches which need to be addressed, but overall they are working well. For example, I seem to get H/W buffer errors if I try to add a plugin while the session is playing. This doesn't happen all the time though. Just on occasions. Fxpansion have advised my that it is not a good idea to insert 'wrapped' plugins while a session is playing because loading a plug apparently draws heavily on the CPU initially. This is not a problem on 'normal' plugins, just the DSP ones. In any case, it may just be my PC (P4 1.4GHz). As yet I haven't seen any reports of other users having ptoblems so I guess it's still early days. btw, I have an MBox, and H/W buffer errors are not really that uncommon. For example, if I have my USB modem connected to the same USB hub, I also get them, so its not a case of the wrapper alone not working as it should. With regards to latency, it's not an issue. Yes, the plugs do have a big latency, but this is true which ever DAW you use. The only thing is that PT doesn't have automatic plugin delay compensation, so you just have to use the delay compensator plugin which comes with the cards. Just insert the delay compensator on those tracks which do not have any DSP plugs on them, to bring them into sync. I would say then, that overall it would be a worth while purchase, as it is very much usable, and will provide you with a good arsenal of quality plugins. I also have the UAD1 card which also works well. Hope this is helpful gm

You're absolutely right I just wanted to make the point that the latency issue was an attribute of the plugins and not of PT itself. btw, have you had any problems with H/W buffer errors while using the plugins as I've mentioned? I get them every now and then. It's not a show stopper, because all I do is hit play and it just continues, but is a bit of an inconvenience. Oh yes, I do admire my UAD card very much so (more than my Powercore, but we wont get into that )

i heard powercore latency is about 200ms, which is really too much to be used live. and annoying in studio, too, since pt does not compensate latency as far as i know.

So does anyone know if Digi have any plans to implement automatic PDC? I am sure they must be aware of the demand, but is it on the cards? I read somewhere here that because of the RTAS format, it is not possible to implement in PT(?)

the only person in the whole thread who mentioned any sort of "bugs" was giantman. Most of which centered around putting a plug on a track while it is playing. I mean - cmon - thats not really a bug now is it? not having PDC is not a bug 200ms latency is not a bug these are the things you'll have to deal with using a DSP card. These plugins are meant for mixing - not tracking. If you want a bit of compression on playback while tracking - use the digirack comp. Replace it LATER when you are mixing. there is NO PERFECT PRODUCT, everything has its limitations - you just have to deal with them.
Ghede, Reynep is right. Overall, I am very happy with the wrapper+Powercore, and wouldn't want to be without. I may have given the wrong impression, which wasn't my intention. I know I mentioned a few glitches with my system, but if it's any consolation, after much playing around, I have realised that I also get those errors with other 'normal' plug too (for example, the Voxengo Pristine Space demo which I downloaded today). So, it's probably a limitation of my PC, and not the wrapper/PCore. As far as latency, its not a problem for studio use. I simply create a couple of aux tracks which are then used to delay compensate a couple of busses. Any tracks which need this treatment, I simply route to these busses as required. It works well for me. As Reynep has already said, latency cannot be considered a bug, merely a limitation, and a minor inconvenience at most. Anyhow, the bottom line is, if I had to buy the same again, then I certainly would. Cheers gm
