playback and record lag

Hi Guys I have searched on the DUC but can't find the answer. I get serious lag when hitting the play or record button. Most of the time it doesn't work at all after one hit. I didn't have this problem with good old 5.3.1 and i was running 1gig p3! I have adjusted the buffer size and cpu usage and this doesn't help much. I have plenty of power: 1 gig of ram and 2.6 p4. i also get this when I record with just 1 compressor on a vocal track. Something definately is not set right, but I don't know where to look. Anyone else have the same prob? Thanks in advance. Duane

Something else to try if you haven't already is to go into preferences and set your record allocation to 10 minutes. I don't know if this would affect playback though.

That does help.There has been a lot of discussion in past threads,but I don't know what to search for.My rig only does that when I first open a session.It seems to gather it's wit's and function properly after it initially gets going.
