kind of music? if is electronic/trance: M-Audio Studiophile BX5a seems they are kinda good also for hiphop/rnb, a friend of me that have KRK prefers check the mixes on my BX5a... i use them since... the time they exists (3-4 years? more? forgot) they have just (imho) an huge problem, they sound TOO NICE to be used during mastering. If you have enough outputs on your audio card you could link both BX5a and your BOSE (and maybe something else too, i use 5 sets of monitor) so you can, during mastering, hear the various sounds on each set to find out a tradeoff...
You're most likely going to end up spending $300 (give or take $50) People seem to like: KRK Rubicons M-Audio Fostex Truth(s){?} Even Tascam I myself have a pair of wharfdales that do just fine (though I have been critisized for them) Best thing that you can do (besides returning the Bose;)) is go down to GC or where-ever and listen. Bring your own music. The common wisdom 'round these parts is to splurge on your monitors as much is feasible. They say you'll thank yourself in the long run:)

There really isn't a guitar center near my city. Its a good 2 hours away and I have made the drive before, but it was for a bass amp. Are there any other big stores besides best buy that sell monitors? (Sears, radioshack, etc. stores that every city has) Thanks
I love my Tascam VL-A8s. Great stereo image esp for the price. And with the 8" woofers you can mix almost anything w/o a sub (except for things like hip-hop with extreme bass). I got them for about $350 shipped to TX.
I think i've narrowed it down to Tascam Vl-A8 Fostex PM0.5 MKII M-Audio studiophile BX5a Or Behringer Truth B2030A Are the M-audio, behringer, or tascams worth the extra hundred?
Glad you got hooked up with the M-Audio's, although, I am suprised no one mentioned the Yamaha HM-50's? I have these and they're *crystal* clear (a little lacking on anything below 100hz, but very precise othewise).
