SOLVED - It was, er, operator error. Sigh. Cockos, delete this thread if it gives a bad impression to Reaper newcomers. Oh, this is embarrassing. I can't install Reaper! I've used Reaper 2.55 for a while but have been unable to update/install the last version (was it 2.58?) of the 2.0 release cycle. No problem, thought I; I'd wait for Reaper 3. I've just downloaded Reaper 3 and tried to install it and got nowhere. I keep getting a message saying that Reaper can't write the exe file. When I try to get the Reaper 3 update via my installed 2.55, I get a message saying there is no internet connection, even though I've set my firewalls and anti-virus software to let Reaper through. This has never happened to me before. So I've got three problems: 1. Reaper 2.55 isn't detecting an internet connection. 2. Reaper 3's execute file won't write. 3. I'm an idiot. Any suggestions? :)

the 'execute file won't write' problem, I'm sure i remember being Reaper already running in the process manager. Kill the task (if it IS running) and try the installation again. I used to get a similar problem when FL Studio (which was running as a vsti within reaper) wouldn't shut down properly and stopped reaper from shutting down properly too (although it would appear to).

Success! It was definitely option no.3 ;) Merci pour votre aide, mes amis. :) My internet connection worked fine. I could still download files and install software - it's just Reaper that was refusing to cooperate. The Task Manager showed that Reaper had closed down properly. My virus and Windows downloads were all up to date. I even went so far as to reinstall 2.54 over 2.55. Finally - and you're going to hate me for this - I right clicked the exe file and chose "Run as Administrator" (even though I've never had to do this with Reaper) and Reaper 3.0, a thing of beauty, is now in front of me. :) (Cockos, feel free to delete this thread - I don't want to give a bad impression of Reaper to new visitors to these forums.) Now, if only I could get Reaper 3 to find my projects from Reaper 2.55... :)

Glad you got it sorted out, so you needed admin rights to install it? Hmm I never had that problem, I always give myself full rights :) I keep all my projects in a separate folder on another disk or partition so you may want to try that and then you can access them whenever you like example: D:\Reaper Projects, also easier to backup that way

Yes, I don't know why I had to tell the exe file that I was the administrator. It's never happened to Reaper before. Strange. I may try your suggestion. I think my Reaper filepaths are messed up. The RPP files get saved in an App Data folder, which is somewhere outside the main Reaper folder. (I have trouble finding it!) It's disconcerting to look in the Reaper folder and not see the projects. (I've also made a copy of Reaper 2.55 and deleted it from my hard drive because Reaper 3 was calling up some of the graphic themes from 2.55. Computing is not my forte.) :)
