I'm sure you've seen it -- and I guess it's supposed to be a "feature" of OSX. You click on something or move the mouse somewhere and all of a sudden all of the windows of a particular application get smaller and move so that you can see them all at once -- but the application becomes inactive until you click on one of the windows. Every OSX system I've worked with does this, but with my new Intel iMac, it's doing it all the time and it is just driving me crazy. Sometimes it does it three or four times every minute!! I'm about ready to ram my head into a tree stump. I have absolutely no use for this "feature" whatsoever. Does anyone know if there's a way to turn it off?
Yes you can turn it off. It's called Expose and I believe you find it under your user account preferences. I can't remember for sure, but someone here can walk you through it. I have mine set to only do this if I move my mouse to the lower right corner. Although I rarely use it it's there if I need it.
It's called Expose, and you can tweak or disable it completely in System Preferences. I find it quite handy if it's setup right. You do have to learn not to put your cursor in the corner accidentally though.
If you using a Mighty Mouse (comes with the iMac), the default is set so that when you squeeze the sides, you invoke Expose which is why all the windows fly out for selection. Open the keyboard/mouse preferences and under Mouse where you see Expose assigned, assign "nothing".
Off topic a bit, I have a similar question. Im working on some sessions from another studio. Whenever I open them I have to rearange the screen size to how I like to work, with a small space at the bottom for the transport bar. If I resize the screen to fill my whole monitor from left to right and then close the session, when I reopen it, it always reverts back to the original postion from the other studio?????
