So I've got a song done but have a little automation problem. On one track, I have a wah pedal assigned for a lead bit, which worked quite well. But further along the track, there another part that I don't want the wah. What I can't figure out is, if I can limit the envelope to just one part of the track or will it always cover the entire track??

Hi OpIvy. From what you've described, it's not too clear what you are actually using the automation envelope for. But track envelopes span the entire track. They can however have different values at each part of the track. What that means is... If for ex you are using the envelope to enable (turn on) a wah plugin, then you can simply create another segment of the same envelope that would bypass the plugin. Or similarly, if you are using the envelope to control the dry/wet mix or the modulation depth of a patch, then you can create envelope segments that adjust those params. Again, what are you actually using the envelope for? Note that while a track can have multiple automation envelopes, each envelope will be dedicated to only one parameter (though I suppose it's possible to override that if you wanted to.) HTH.

I hope I can describe this properly seeing as though I only learned how to do this but basically I'm running amplitube as an fx on the track, which has a wah. So I set up the envelope to use this as a parameter. I then used the mouse to control the wah effect in write mode. Worked great on the item where I wanted the wah but there's an item further along the same track I don't want wah. Problem is I can't find a way to 'stop' the effect for this part. Are you saying I could perhaps have a separate envelope to bypass this effect where I don't want it?

OK you drew the wah's the envelope moving the mouse up and down. Somewhere within the up-down range of the envelope should be a position that you consider to be 'off'... it's likely at the bottom, top, or possibly in the middle of the range. What you want to do is, once you are done with the effect, add new points to that same envelope that will set the effect to 'off' or to whatever actual parameter/value corresponds to off. Easiest way to do this (this is from memory but should be close if not exact): 1) Select the envelope. 2) Press the shift key and move the mouse to the envelope seg until it turns into an arrow, and then click on the envelop. That will place a new envelope point. 3) Then select that point, and drag it to the appropriate position. That should do it. Now if the following doesn't make sense at least yet, don't worry about it. :) You might need to add an additional envelope point or 2, either before or after the one you just added, so as to insure you are not creating an extraneous segment that contains values you don't want to pass on to the control you're automating. IOW, sometimes envelope segments need to be "sealed off" or isolated from other segments.

You can also automate the Bypass envelope of the wah effect, to turn the FX off completely when you don't want to use it.

yeah that's the easiest thing to do. add another env for the bypass and just use vertical on-off segments. Sometimes, with a track that has a number of automated Bypass points, it can be preferable to duplicate the track without the FX, with each track having items only in the appropriate place. Really depends on the nature of the track, the effect, how fixed the arrangement is, what the effects are, etc. Lots of ways to accomplish the same things.
