you, good sir, are a GENIUS! :) As for the deleted AD track, I usually do have a parent for the drums it seems I forgot to do that this time haha :/ I still have a few questions. I can get the whole kit into that one track, but what if I want to record each kit piece to its own track? Would I have to go into the module and make each piece send on a different MIDI channel? Also, would I have to enable record monitoring on every track that is to be recorded onto? Lastly, if I were to make a drum parent track, the track with the actual AD plugin should be the one with Master/Parent send checked off? Thank you so much!

Glad you're getting it sorted. Regarding the delay (latency) you're getting when monitoring, here are some suggestions that might help: 1. Reduce your ASIO buffer size to as low as possible while still not resulting in crackling/crashing. Just how low you can go will depend on your computer specs as well as your interface. For me, I can only get to about 16ms roundtrip, which is workable though not great. 2. Make sure you don't have any plugins that introduce latency in the recording chain. I.e., if you have ReaVerb on a record enabled track (or a send from one), or on the master, it will introduce additional delay. 3. Depending on what other instruments you're recording (like, if you don't have other VSTi's in addition to the drums), you could always just plug in the TD-3 audio outs and use hardware monitoring. You would still record the MIDI for use later w/ AD, but you would just turn off the record monitoring on that track. Impressive that your drummer could make it work. Depending on the latency, that can be a real distraction for some people.

The audio outs wouldn't work for us :( nor would the headphone out. I assumed it was b/c we had to use the local off setting on the module? We're pretty much done tracking and I"ve come to editing. What's the most efficient way to edit drums this way? I would have to edit the AD track as well as the single track (ie an off beat snare)?

I'll take your word that you had to use "local off". I'm not familiar with the TD-3. I would dig harder next time, though, because I'm about 99% sure you should be able to get both audio AND midi out at the same time. Nevertheless, now that you have the midi track, that's where you correct timing issues. Just open the midi item in the midi editor and move the notes around. If you used a click track, or if you build a tempo map, you can use the grid as a reference. If not, just do it by ear. If you recorded the audio output from AD onto each track, I suggest you just re-record that once you've corrected the midi. The only reason I can think of to do that, though, is if you want to save CPU or if you want to give the drum tracks to someone who is not using AD. (There might be other reasons, what do I know? :)

Definitely use a small mixer next time. Turn local audio back on. Connect audio outs from TD3 to mixer, and MIDI out to interface. Have drummer (and anyone else tracking with him) listen to audio provided from the mixer, and record nothing but pure MIDI. Works great.

Great Read. I am going to try this exact process, only using the Aleis DM8pro. My first (trial) attempt resulted in some incorrect note playback back to the DM8 module... Not sure why, but more reading of this thread and I might get it fixed. Thanks, BB
