Welcome Mangle. If I understand your post right, you want to apply the effect to only 1 section of the track, not the whole thing. Here's how to do that: -open the FX window by clicking the FX button on the track -select your effect -set it up the way you want it to sound -open the automation window by clicking env on the track -find the bypass (usually at the end) in the list of automatable parameters and click the little box to its left A new lane should have appeared in the timeline. When the line across this lane is at the bottom, the effect is on, when it's at the top, the effect is off. Go to the start of your track, hold down the [shift] key, click your left mouse button, and pull the line up. The effect is now bypassed. Now go to the section of the track you want the effect applied to, and pull the line down. The effect should now be on. Go to the part of the track that you want the effect to stop on, and pull the line back up. The effect should be bypassed again. When you save the project, your settings for the automation you just did will also be saved. Remember that you haven't actually changed the wav file itself, it's just adding the effect like a hardware unit would. If you want to make that change permanent (IOW apply it destructively) you will have to render the track and save it as a new wave file.
