Hi, I've just bought a 1968 P1800s on an F plate, it's currently at the sellers house and I need to tell him where the VIN plate is so he can tell me the details where are the VIN plates normaly Located ? Thanks Simon
Its on the bulkhead on an 1800. Look for the heater thermostat housing (the brass fixture with two hoses coming off it, one to the heater and one to the engine) which is in the engine bay just to the left of the heater box as you look from the front of the car. To the left of that thermostat is a flat piece of metal and its on that flat piece but it will be under paint and/or rust. Its kind of under the rod that clamps the bonnet down
Just to be clear on this, the VIN is stamped directly into the metal, it is not on a plate. The thermostat Mike mentions is the thermostatic heater control valve which was painted on mine so did not look brass coloured and has two hoses attached to it. You will need good light and to clean out the crud from that area before you will have a chance of finding it let alone reading it. There is also a very good chance that the VIN will not be correctly recorded on the V5. My V5 just has the type number from the top line of the information plate which is rivetted to the pedal box. Andrew BTW Your car is an 1800S, the P as in P1800 only applies to the Jensen built cars, 62-64.
Hi I have late P1800s (1969 B20 carburetted) and VIN is stamped into the drivers side door frame (now obscurred by paint) Apologies if this adds to the confusion. . . Stuart
My Monica's VIN is stamped on the driver's door frame - virtually impossible to read unless you've got a very bendy neck. Monica is a late 72 1800ES. Jack
On the E and ES they had a number on the door pillar (and a stamped in number on the front crossmember) - but i've never heard of one on an S before - they were always on the bulkhead.
