I know ive mentioned this before but i havent seen an explanation anywhere as to why, when rendering a single track with no routing to stem, all the fx in the project have to be run? ...and why is the whole project length run if the track youre rendering only has items at the start of the track. ...and why isnt just whats being rendered the only thing thats metered.

no, he's talking about the per-track stem render function from within the UI. i'd like this fixed as well. at the moment i just toggle all the other tracks to mute but it'd be good to have those tracks automute before render.

I agree. This is strange behavior that should be killed.

Yeah, only run the required routings and fx (for the selected tracks) when rendering stems!

I agree. This behavior should change. I've created a couple of macros (Stereo and Mono) for this, get them here: It's way faster... EDIT: I'm not sure but shouldn't this thread be moved to the FR's Forums? It may be an oversight or simply by design but in any case we want this to be changed so it turns this into a request, right?

A nice addition would also be smart rendering that renders only the parts where audio and midi items are + ability to define tail to allow FX/Instrument decay+release time being rendered, and than the silence is quickly skipped. This should of course be user-optional, as it does not apply to FX that generate sound on their own (eg. tonegenes etc.).

+1 for rendering only the items not the whole project length for the per track render from the tcp thingy

+1 on all this. Plus I'd like to be able to do an "online" ie realtime stem render so I can render through my outboard gear (as I can with the normal render dialog). Cheers Ben

I've got a feeling you can somehow, not tried it myself though. There are sws commands for forcing reaper into online mode and then you can switch back after. Someone must have a way :)

Agreed! Hopefully we can get this fixed soon. Stirring up a little noise about it here too: Regards, DB
