I seem to have a hell of a time with this one :( SBC was great but for some odd reason I get a lot of encoding after effects (I think that what it's called?) after the movie is encoded with SBC so I decided to try out xvid. Well I done that, the video was great but to my surprise it wasn't xvid but divx4.11??? I did have a problem with virtualdub since it kept shutting down after I pressed start as stated in the guide. So I had to go to the g.knot and add a job and start from there, now where am I going wrong here? I uninstalled divx4.11 so I will try it again. What am I doing wrong here? I don't know why the v.dub isn't encoding but keeps shutting down, but besides that is there anything else possible? PLease help. Sn4k1z

first, u can't encode to xvid by using gknot. gknot is for sbc and divx encoding only. your encoded video may be identified as divx4 because you accidently set the FOURCC code to DIVX. select 'XVID' as FOURCC in the codec settings. your virtualdub problem may be caused by an outdated virtualdub version, try the latest release from

that is what I get when I try to encode xvid, I tried it on my other os system which is win2k and if only had divx5 and xvid installed with g.knot so it must be something with the software that's screwy or I don't have something installed like I should. It doesn't allow even for a single pass and it crashes every time. ANy ideas? My comp is. T-bird 1.4 500mb ddram geforce 3 winXP or win2k aspi drivers aren't installed but I don't think I need those for this, so any suggestion would be of great benefit.

I would suggest going into XviD's configuration dialog (via VirtualDub) and hitting the "Load Defaults" button. After that don't try an encode via GKnot, just load an AVI in VirtualDub, set the compressor to be XviD (with Fast recompress enabled instead of Full Processing), and save a new AVI. -h

Kilted Yatsman Thanx a lot, I loaded the defaults and it worked, how wierd?? I don't know why that would do it and not the original settings that were installed like how could the defaults get screwed up before I did anything to them? Well it worked so far with pass one so I have mt fingers crossed for pass 2 :) thanx again. sn4k1z
