I do far more reading here than posting, but wouldn't you know it, the week I had the most questions the board was down. No worries, I did the deed anyway. Came across a perfect '98 V90, original owner, maintained to the 9's, effectively new in every respect except the 96K miles. Always garaged, maintained by dealer, driven by wife of senior Army doctor, still has two of the original tires on it. Could not pass it up at $6200 US dollars. Drives like a dream, quiet and smooth, fully loaded, no rattles. No scratches of note. Plenty of power with the 6304 engine (181HP?), and has had many parts of concern replaced (by the dealer) at significant cost - woof. Clearly the owners did not do any wrenching themselves. Anybody have any tips and insights on these V90's? I have read pretty much everything that Googled up on them. Seems like that they did not make too many, the end of the line for the big RWD Volvo Brick Wagons. Have had a great experience with the '94 940, but it was not maintained in detail by the previous two owners, so the trim is tired. She has been a good one. Anyway, just thought I'd share the fun. Later.

Hi, Search the 900/90 forum or have a browse through.. Also have a read/browse of the 700/900 FAQ: .... There are a few minor niggles that may pop up.. Make sure you use the correct coolant. Change/refresh it every 2 years. Change the gearbox oil at least every 100k miles. I believe someone else recommends changing it every 50k miles... Not so sure about the diff oil but I suspect that could well do with a change for the 100k miles... Change your oil regularly, and use a Volvo oil filter. If it hasn't been changed, change the cambelt. When you change the cambelt change both tensioner wheels, the damper and give serious consideration to changing the water pump. Oil seep from the block should not be an issue as you have a late white block... Make sure the AirCon has been regassed correctly (complete clean/flush for an hour) and refilled. Use the Aircon for 30-60 minutes a week each week to keep the seals in good condition.. Enjoy.. :) Des. . . ;)

Hi, No metal skid pan, you just have the plastic under there. And yes, as you noticed, they can get into a bit of a sad state!! Volvo oil filters have a non return valve in them so holding oil in the engine. This helps on start-up as there is oil in the engine already and thus reduces engine wear. If you can get a few at a time. It should be the same filter as that for the 940 (and 740 and 240 I believe!!)... Enjoy the car... :) Des. . . ;)
