I recently sold my VS-1880 and I'm in the process of putting together a PT system. Will a G4/400 w/192mb do the job? I haven't purchased the Mac yet, so I am open to suggestions. What do I need? I want to have the same capabilities that I had with the VS, but with the editing flexability of the 001. So what am I in for? Mac, external drive, CD-RW, and what else? Thanks for your help.

I recomend putting your hard drives on a scsi chain.. and remember, there is a considerable bug in the le right now. Search "strange exploding sound" and read over 200 accounts of this horrible "feature". All and all PTLE is great, but lately I feel a little miffed that such a huge bug has been unresolved for months and months. Also, spring for 256 megs of ram.. its worth it. ~Eric

I'm using a dual processor 450 mHz with a firewire hard drive and it works great. I have 256 megs of RAM. At the local university, they have TWO 001s running on 400 mHz G-4s and 196 megs of RAM and they work excellent too, though they have SCSI drivers. But these are systems that get about 35 users in the average week and they rarely crash. And lemme tell ya -- 001 totally blows the VS-1880 away. The only down side is that it doesn't have the portability. But if you're mostly a project studio guy you'll find it has endless possibilities for creativity and control of the sound.

The PTLE would be used for home use only, but I would at times have to move projects back and forth from a couple of professional studios that use the TDM system. I was told by an product specialist (PT) that I should go with the scsi external drive for compatibility reasons. What scsi card is the most compatible? What about burners and software, any ideas? Thanks a bunch!
