Reading yep's excellent posting on why our recordings sound like donkey, , I remembered that IEEE (pronounced: eye-triple-ee, originally an acronym for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) in their journal IEEE Spectrum ("For Tech Insiders"), had some papers on music and technology. I searched their website for loudness and this came up: Especially "The Future of Music" I found interesting.

Good reading. Thanks. Here are some sources I also found to be useful on the subject... For some great general mastering advice, including loudness.... - (Be sure to read Bob Katz's book, but the website also has some great info too.)

From the "Future of music" article: "How songs and albums will sound will depend entirely on whether or not the listener actually cares about the intricacies of the music." <- That's exactly the problem. Cool links! :)
