I can't offer any advise on slot postions, or specifics about getting the 001 running on the BE6. I can tell you that the rumors about the High Point ATA 66 controler on that board being bogus are true. I was having problems with my BE6 system locking up during periods of high disk activity with ATA 66 drives connected to the built in High Point ATA 66 controller. I also tried connecting CD and DVD ROM drives and CD writers to that controller. Most of it seemed to work, but sometimes, accessing a CD on that controller would cause a lockup. I know some people are using the BE6 for PTLE. They have simply put all their drives on the ATA 33 controller to avoid the problems with the High Point controller. I wanted to use an ATA 66 controller for my ATA 66 drives. Since the BE6 (unlike the BE6-2) cannot disable the High Point controller in BIOS, I decided to get a different motherboard all together, so I've never tried the Abit board with PTLE. Everything else sounds good. As long as you don't use the built-in ATA 66 controller on the BE6 board you should have a nice PTLE systme there. The 512Mb RAM is overkill though. I am now running with 256Mb. I used to have 320Mb. I took out 64Mb of it as an experiment. Since I can't tell in operation that the additional 64Mb is gone, I just never put it back. 256Mb is the useful limit as far as I could tell. Mike

hey, thanks for the reply. this machine was my old worksatation....used for maya photoshop and after effects. in those applications, there is no such thing as overkill w/ ram. it is being retired now to be my pt rig as i have built another box for my graphics workstation. thanks for the info. i was having a piss poor time w/ the promise controller. it has been just behaving badly.....i cant even startup with a drive plugged into it. it has mostly been backing up file from the drive that i will be using form audio as of late. havent plugged the pt card in....i had it on an old mac of mine for a while, but it wasnt loving that....hehe. i do wish i could just plug the beast into a g3/g4 tower because of the sheer volume of plugins available on the mac side, but you gots to work w/ what you got, i guess.... have fun _x
