I'm planning to start laser treatments but I'm also planning a beach vacation in a few months. How does sun exposure affect the treatment schedule and results?

Sun exposure is probably the biggest thing to watch out for with laser treatments. You need to avoid direct sun for at least 2 weeks before and after each session. Tanned or sunburned skin increases the risk of burns, discoloration, and other complications because the laser can't distinguish between the melanin in your hair and the melanin in tanned skin. If you're planning a beach trip, you'd want to either complete your treatment series well before or wait until after. Most clinics won't treat tanned skin for safety reasons.

This is so important and I learned it the hard way! I had started my laser series and then went on a beach vacation thinking I'd just be extra careful with sunscreen. Even with SPF 50, I got a bit of color and they had to postpone my next session by almost a month until the tan faded completely. The staff at laser hair removal service were really strict about this policy, which I appreciated later because it's all about safety. I'd definitely recommend planning your treatment schedule around any major sun exposure. The good news is that once you're done with the series, you'll need way less maintenance and can enjoy your beach time without worrying about razor burn or ingrown hairs!
