It is essential that you fit new gaskets. There is a paper one to block, a rubber ring to the heater pipe and one to the head. For just replacing the pump as you are this is a top hat shape. When replacing the head it is sometimes just a straight piece of tube. This will not work. Ensure that all gasket faces are thorughly clean. When fitting put the paper gasket on with a smear of sealant to help hold it in place, locate on the two studs loosely and just start the bolts. Push the pump up hard against the head and tighten the two nuts to hole it. Then tighten the bolts. Mike
Thanks very much! Also in the post on how to change it on a B5234T, it says the bolts may be a bit hard to loosen as they're normally sealed with locktite. Should I put locktite on the bolts as well then when I put it back on? Cheers again :)
I did it :Banane45: It's working, the horrible noise is gone and it's not leaking. Thanks for the advice! Only regret is I should have got new fanbelts from Volvo. I got them from Halfords, and the two fanbelts are slightly different length. Sure I read somewhere that it was best to use Volvo ones, but since I had already bought them i didn't bother :( Nevermind.. I can always swap them.
Aha, thanks!:) I shall check that when I go to get new ones!! Hope they're not to diffucult to find, as I would imagine they move about a bit from they leave the factory till they hit the shelves...
Yes good luck, the good motor factors tend to keep a few matched when they get them, obviously due to the large turnover and multitude of cars each belt may fit!they split pairs if necessary.I only found out from a small independant parts retailer that belts varied so much,he actually refused to sell me two belts as they didn't match.:Banane35:
Did my water pump last month. Did the belts as well. Got the lot from Braydon Motors. See their ad' in The Driver. I spoke to Tony Barrett who knew exactly which belts I needed. All delivered to me in France and all were 'spot on'. May be worth a try for you when you change them. Cheers.
