I had my speedo fail a few times tonight after I gave my 855 T5 the beans, it worked ok after i switched it off and re-started it. am i right in thinking that the speedo is controlled by the ABS system? Its a 96 car so is a phase 2. I do have slightly juddering brakes but i was putting that down to worn discs and I have no warning light on on the dash could i be having the beginning of a ABS ECU failure?

I know on my 850 2.5 se the speedo is controled by the abs unit. Sounds like a connection has come adrift either in the ecu or somewhere else to do with the speedo. May be that is why there is no abs fault light. One other thing does the abs light come on when you first turn the ignition on ie to test it. Cheers Bob....

the speedo is controlled by the sensors which also serve the abs system...the juddering is the abs working probably oversensitively..... you will have to search the forum but it may also be due to a damaged wire under the fuse box, i would certainly look into this and clean up the sensors, while you are cleaning the sensors check the reluctor rings (the sensor reads off this) for quality.... only after i had done this would i resolder the teves abs unit...... cheers jod

I havent had time to look at the sensors but i did notice that the ABS light is not working at all, it does not come on with the igniton. I have a feeling that someone has taken the bulb out but will have to check in the next few days :(

May be the ignition switch itself. They're always going wrong.

Try turning the key alittle backwards after you've started the car, mine plays up all the time and i lose my speedo and lights.

Oh also when the speedo fails if i turn the ignition off I get a buzzing noise from behind the dash. This only happens when the speedo has failed and not when its been working.
