Hello, I have a friend who wants absolutely to make captures in real time with his video card Win happauge. I advised him to benefit from the software of Nero, and you, what do you think about it? Which of the codec will choose you? Real, Windows, Nero, Divx or others. NOTE: It has only a hard disk of 30 gigas in SCSI - 3?

IIRC the hauppage capture cards are all hardware encoders. Capture to an mpeg 1/2 file and author it with an authoring program such as Tmpgenc dvd Author or your favorite.

tigerman8u, I don't doubt. But I preferred that he uses this method which appears much surer to me in term of quality the picture, and for the available space at the end of treatment. But I wonder, if if there are other methods more reliable. other commentaries!!!!!!!

If your friend watches recorded material on tv, and he has a standalone divx mpeg4 player, then he can always capture directly using VirtualDub with divx 6.0.3 HE (if he has the licence, the fastest and easy to use he can found IMHO), and then recompress mp3 audio. The resolution depends by the cpu, and the bitrate depend by the space he wants to use and, of course, the quality. Of course there're other ways that guarantee higher quality.. :p

Of course there're other ways that guarantee higher quality.. "mod" Interesting, you know them. NOTE: I recall you that one speaks solely of capture in real time.

Always with VDub, he could capture lossless and then recompress mpeg1-2 or mpeg4. The lossless codec I use are MSU and Arythyuv, and I get really good results with both. Consider that the needed free space is BIGGER.. Moreover if he directly use DivX (or any other mpeg4 AVC) he doesn't need further encoding (except that for the audio, but it's a fast process). Hope I've been helpful.
