I use GKnot to rip dvd's. This is the first problem that I have encountered. When I create a d2v project, it dosent give me an ac3 file. Instead it gives me a wav file. When using the normal process 2 convert the movie, it dosent allow me 2 transcode audio because it asks 4 an ac3 file. If i try and do it without the audio (convert the audio seperatly, which i did.) it gives issues about not being able 2 open log files. What am i doing wrong? Please help me. these vob files are eating the space on my hdd.

in DVD2AVI 'Audio'->'Dolby Digital' should be set to 'demux' in order to get the ac3 track

Unfortunately there is only 1 audio stream 2 choose from. But now how would i go about using gknot to divx without having an ac3 stream?

well if and when you do encode the audio then you can enter the filesize of the file into the audio 1 box. If you don't have one then enter the bitrate for the mp3 file you will use, so you don't screw up the bitrate and have an oversized movie. Then you can encode the movie as normal. When it asks for an AC3 input select the MP3 (assuming you encoded to mp3) and select just mux. It will mux the audio to the video stream just as if you had used an AC3 file. Hope this helps.

Not to sound like i know everything (infact, far from that am i) but i have tried that. It gave some error about not being able 2 open the log file. I even encoded the audio into a vbr mp3 seperatly and then tried 2 use gknot without audio. No luck there. I am at a loss.

Ok, I thought you didn't know how to encode without the audio. Well could you post your gnkot log file here. And when does it give you the log file error, after it finishes the first pass or what?

i dont have the log file anymore. it gives me the error b4 it starts 2 encode the first pass. that is if i dont try 2 encode the audio with gknot. if i try 2 encode the audio with gknot then the error occurs after it has finished decoding the ac3 file (or wav file if i'm using that instead) but b4 the encoding of the file into an mp3 file. it keeps telling me that the mp3 file size is zero after it encodes the file into mp3. This is baffling the hell out of me. Last resort is 2 try and re-install gknot and divx.

Yes reinstall Gknot and Divx 5, that seems to be the last alternative. That is a wierd problem you got there. Hope you fix it.
